How my law firm stays virtual | Google Workspace for lawyers

When I started my virtual law firm in late 2019, I didn't have a penny to waste.

As a result, I knew that my law firm needed tools that are both powerful and cost-effective.  

This mentality led to my law firm making over $100,000 in my first 10 months. 

My law firm continues to grow each and every year.

The one constant during this time is my law firm's use of Google Workspace.

In this post, I'll walk you through how Google Workspace helps me run my virtual law firm. 

Overview of Google Workspace

Google Workspace, formerly known as G-Suite, features all the tools for maximizing productivity on a budget.

Google Drive

Google Drive gives your law firm the ability to store, access, and share files from Google's secure cloud storage. 

This means that you can access your client's files from your phone, computer, or iPad from anywhere with internet connection.

You can also set certain files to be available offline (i.e., without internet connection).

In fact, when I went to Europe, the only "law-firm device" that I took with me was my iPad Pro. My law firm didn't skip a beat!

Gmail

As a component of Google Workspace, you can get a Gmail account for your business. This includes the ability to include your website at the end of the email address (e.g., bob@boblawfirm.com).

Google Calendar

Google calendar makes it simple to schedule meetings, mark deadlines, and keep track of time. You can share your calendar with others as well.

Google Meet

Google Meet is a business-grade video conferencing platform. Can't meet face-to-face with a client? Then utilize Google Meet!

Google Forms

I use Google Forms as a way for clients to complete Intake Forms. Check out this detailed guide on how lawyers can sign up clients FAST, FREE, and VIRTUALLY.

I actually take my Google Forms a step further by utilizing Google Scripts.

Every time a client completes an Intake Form (through Google Forms), a script automatically takes the information from the Intake Form and inputs it in a case binder for me.

Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides

Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides are similar to Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

The biggest difference (at least for my needs) is that you can run Google Scripts so that Google's products work together. Again, you can see how I use scripts to automate my law firm in the video above.

With more complex cases, I also like to give clients access to specific Google Docs or Google Sheets so that they can provide their own input. 

Since Google Workspace can be accessed by anyone with a browser (like Safari or Google Chrome), it gives lawyers the ability to be more collaborative with their clients.

Conclusion

Gone are the days of needing large filing cabinets for your law firm.

You no longer need your own server.

Instead, Google Workspace gives you the tools you need to grow your virtual law firm. 

When using Google's suite of applications, you can become more effective and profitable.

When the business side of your law firm is low maintenance, you can spend your time doing what you do best -- being a lawyer!
